Concerten Jean Guy Devienne Bass-Baritone Die Winterreise- F. Schubert
2

The 'Winterreise' is a series of ieder composed by Franz Schubert on poetry by Wilhelm Muller. The Lieder are about the errings in a cold winter night of a young man who lost his love to another man. His beloved has now become a 'wealthy fiancee'.
The 'icecold and savage' winter weather corresponds to the cold that freezes the young man’s heart. At the end of his journey he meets the strange fiddle player,
a brother in loneliness.
Jean Guy Devienne was born in Brussels. After receiving a first song prize, he continued his studies with Franz-Ferdinand Nentwig and followed a Lieder Meisterkurs in Vienna with Hans Hotter. He sings at the Belgian Opera, especially the Opera de la Monnaie, and he has performed in Die Zauberflote, Don Carlos, Gianni Schicchi, Falstaff etc, as well as Oratoriums as Mozarts Requiem, Brahms, Faure, Haydn, and recitals.
