In the footsteps of a Leuven beguine

On a walk through the Great Beguinage of Leuven (Unesco World heritage), a beguine will tell the story of her daily life in the 17th century, showing the enclosure with church, infirmary, Table of the Holy Spirit, houses and convents as a living society.
Beguines were women who dedicated already from the 1century onwards their lives to God without retiring from the world. Did the beguines in the 17th century still follow the original ideals of chastity and obedience ? Was there some truth in rumours about copious meals and all-night dancing ?
During this walk in the splendidly restored beguinage of Leuven, you will hear true, sometimes mischievous stories, based on ancient documents. This story will give you more than a glimpse of what living the life of a beguine really meant.
