Recital Wenting Shi

 
A Juilliard and Yale alumni,
pianist Wenting Shi received the silver prize at the 5th Hong Kong International Piano Competition in . Before that, she also claimed numerous prizes around the world including the Serge & Olga Koussevitzky Young Artist Awards Piano Competition (USA ), the ct Young Artist Piano Competition (USA ), the Georges Cziffra Prize presented by Cziffra Stiftung of Austria (Austria ), the chamber and solo prizes at the Virtuoso&Belcanto International Competition (Italy ); the San Jose International Piano Competition with a special prize for the best performance of Russian Music (USA ), the International Toronto Piano Competition (Canada ), the 1International Piano Competition by Taipei Chopin Foundation (Chinese Taipei ), along with concerto performances and solo recitals presented by the foundation, and the grand prize of the 13th Bucharest International Piano Competition (Romania ).
Wenting made her orchestra debut of Liszt Piano Concerto No. 1 with Shanghai Conservatory Orchestra after winning the silver prize in the National Concerto Competition for Young Musicians in Beijing (China ). Her orchestra performances also include Liszt Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra and Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Chopin Piano Concerto No.1 with the National Symphony Orchestra of Chinese Taipei, Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, and Prokofiev Piano Concerto No. th the orchestra of Hong Kong International Piano Competition under the baton of Maestro Ignat Solzhenitsyn.
Wenting started playing the piano at the age of 4 and won the first prize in a national competition in China at the age of 5. She was admitted to Affiliated School to Shanghai Conservatory of Music under Prof. Zijie Wu, Prof. Xiao Luo and Prof. Min-duo Li, and began her professional studies in music at the age of 8. As a child prodigy, Wenting continued to win prizes since then including the first prize of China’s Gu’Lang’yu National Piano Competition for Young Artists, the first prize of Beethoven Music Festival National Competition in which led to a solo debut in Germany at the Beethoven Music Festival.
After graduating from Affiliated High School of Shanghai Conservatory, Wenting began to study at The Juilliard School in New York City on full scholarship with Dr. Yoheved Kaplinsky in . In , she received her Bachelor’s degree with Arthur Rubinstein Prize of Academic Achievements. She continued to study at Juilliard with Dr. Kaplinsky and received her Master’s degree in . After Juilliard, she was admitted to Yale School of Music on full scholarship with Prof. Boris Berman and earned a Master’s degree of Musical Arts in . Wenting currently studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Prof. Avedis Kouyoumdjian.
Wenting is a recipient of many celebrated scholarships awards including “Outstanding Pianist in Artistry” by Shanghai Literature and Arts Talent Fund Council, Shanghai Tang Educational Scholarship, the Chengxian Fu Scholarships by Shanghai Conservatory; the Celia and Joseph Ascher Fund for Piano, the Juilliard Alumni Scholarship, the Carl Friedberg Memorial Scholarship, the Arthur Gold and Robert Fizdale Scholarship, the Shendell Scholarship, the Harold & Helene Schonberg Piano Scholarship, the L. & M. Burle Scholarship, the Alexander Siloti Scholarship, the Lousie Chisholm Moran Piano Scholarship, the William Petschek Scholarship, the Hui Luen Chao Scholarship, the Adele Marcus Piano Scholarship, the Maskiewitz Scholarship Fund and the Anne Lorraine Hopkins Simpson Scholarship by Juilliard, and the Beatrice Ohanessian Memorial Scholarship.
As an international recitalist, Wenting has been invited to give solo concerts in many countries around the world including Usa, Canada, Germany, Austria, Belgium, France, Uk, Russia, South Korea and China in world renowned venues such as Alice Tully Hall in New York, Salle Gaveau in Paris, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts of Belgium, Hong Kong City Hall, Orf Radio Kulturhaus in Vienna and Shanghai Grand Theatre among others. She was invited to give a lecture on Beethoven as a guest lecturer of University of California, Irvine, in October . Her solo performance was recorded by the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and the Austria Orf Radio Symphony Hall, and the cd was released in .
