A light emerges in the dark screen… An old gramophone recording starts… Legendary Markos Vamvakaris grabs his bouzouki and unfolds his deep feelings by improvising with sharp and rough notes… Aman ! A sudden voice in a dark corner… a desperate man is singing in depression…
A woman is singing her complains to her lover, two rough guys armed with knives are mocking each other in rhythm and melody…
Ilias Markantonis, inspired by Rebetiko, the music expression of the outcasts, builds a shadow puppet theatre performance of emotions where poems and lyrics are transformed into moving shadows… Inspired by the music that reflects the nostalgia of the 20th century in urban Greek routine, he brings to life the emotions of the songs, through the old popular art of shadow puppet theatre.
