About the Ensemble: The experience of the orchestral language and the desire of speaking through the intimate dialogue of chamber music is the essence of Quinaire Ensemble: a group of musicians based in Belgium with previous common orchestral background. The aim of exploring the repertoire for clarinet and string quartet give sense to this concept, offering to the audience a unique experience, as a result of the passion, knowledge and energy they put in every performance.
About the program: Besides the famous Clarinet Quintet in A Major K581 composed by Mozart (1756-1791) in 1789, there is an Allegro in B-flat major (1787) for the same instrumentation sketched two years before by the Austrian composer and abandoned after four completed pages. His scholar R. Levin finished the sketch to gift us with this little unknown treasure. Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) decided to stop composing at the age of 57, after finishing his Viola Quintet in G. All this changed in a visit to Meiningen, listening to the clarinettist Richard Mühlfeld (1856-1907), who motivated him to continue composing. Thanks to him we can enjoy the Clarinet Quintet in B minor (1891), one of the most remarkable chamber works of Brahms, taking the reference of Mozart to compose for this characteristic instrumentation.
